The Penn State Biogeochemistry Dual-Title Degree Program was approved in 2008 and involves more than 20 graduate students and 30 faculty from departments across the university. The dual-title degree program continues an 8-year tradition of integrative graduate education in biogeochemistry funded by the National Science Foundation IGERT Biogeochemical Research Initiative for Education (BRIE). The program is administered by the Geosciences Department for the participating graduate programs, with support from the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment (PSIEE), the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI), and the Graduate School. Current director:

Jennifer Macalady
Asst. Professor of Geosciences
210 Deike Building
814-865-6330

The university graduate degree program listing can be found here.

BRIE students are invited to participate in annual events that offer an opportunity to exchange ideas with biogeochemists on and off campus, including the student-organized Environmental Chemistry Student Symposium and annual mini-conferences and field trips (see Highlights for more information).
