INTERCULTURAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETENCE (GI) COURSES IN GEOSCIENCES

Intercultural and International Competence courses are General Education courses designed to help students develop the intercultural competence required to function effectively in a pluralistic society and an ever-increasing interdependent international community.

The University requires that all students complete at least one intercultural and international competence course to meet graduation requirements. These courses are designated with a `GI' suffix and students may satisfy this requirement by choosing a `GI' designated course from anywhere within the Penn State curriculum (this is different from the writing-intensive requirement which must be satisfied by choosing a course from within one's major or college).

The following is a list of the Intercultural and International Competance classes offered by the department:

  • Geosc 402W - Natural Disasters
  • Geosc 499 - Foreign Studies

These courses will count toward your degree's credits as well as the University's Intercultural Requirements.
