Antarctic Update - blog by Don Voigt

11/25/2012

Hi everyone, Thanksgiving Saturday here. We put in on Thrusday. It has been windy and cold since, about -29C last night. All is well though and we are starting to put the drilling operation together. Our big meal is tonight. This is the first two-day break that the camp staff and put-in carpenters have had since they arrived a month ago. Turkeys and pie are on the menu!

I have been asked to be Chief Scientist at WAIS Divide again this season. This time we have two other big operations working out of here besides the ice coring. Polenet (one that Andy and Sridhar are involved with) will be based here and flying to their sites from WAIS. The Pine Island Glacier project that Sridhar and Leo Peters are part of will also be supported from here. So it looks like my job title covers quite a bit more this year.

Hope all is well there.
Don
