Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Integrated Energy Systems, Geosciences



The Department of Geosciences at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Integrated Energy Systems (IES). This position is part of a strategic initiative to further enhance our status as an international leader in energy research and education. The IES initiative spans the College of Engineering and the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) with strong connections to the Institutes of Energy and Environment and the Materials Research Institute. IES priority areas include, but are not limited to: Renewable, Non-renewable, and Hybrid Energy Systems, Smart Energy Systems, and System Optimization of Energy Generation and Distribution.

In Geosciences we seek a creative colleague who will develop a vigorous externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and demonstrate commitment to advancing equity and inclusion. We are particularly interested in candidates who contribute to and complement Penn State’s strengths in energy geosystems, the geoscience of conventional and unconventional energy including fossil and geothermal; topics in carbon sequestration and storage; gas hydrates, hydraulic fracturing, induced seismicity, geomechanics, basin and geostructural analysis, fluid-rock interaction, and hydrogeology. Penn State hosts the Water Initiative and the College of EMS hosts the Center for Geomechanics, Geofluids, and Geohazards, which provide opportunities for collaboration in areas of natural hazards, materials science, and energy engineering.

Applicants must have a PhD in a field related to IES topics.
