Please review Penn State Policy HR68 – Postdoctoral Appointments before submitting a request.
- Postdoctoral scholars are appointed for a minimum of one year and are eligible for benefits.
- If the Principal Investigator (PI) or hiring faculty member has a specific job description they would like posted, please submit it to the Geosciences administrative office when completing the new hire form.
- Please refer to current University guidelines regarding minimum postdoctoral salary requirements and funding expectations.
Hiring Process
- Hiring faculty member/PI completes and submits the Geosciences Postdoctoral Scholar New Hire Form.
- The Geosciences administrative office will initiate the request for a new job posting.
- Please note that the position must be posted for the required recruitment period before a hiring request can be submitted.
- The prospective postdoctoral scholar will apply for the position through Penn State's employment system.
- Once the applicant is selected, the Geosciences administrative office will process the hiring request. Upon acceptance of the offer, University Shared Services will send the candidate an official offer letter and onboarding instructions. International Hires: If visa sponsorship is required, please allow ample time for immigration processing. Visa timelines vary and may significantly extend the hiring process. Hiring faculty should select a realistic start date accordingly.
- The new hire will complete all onboarding requirements through University Shared Services, including background checks, employment documentation, and Penn State identification setup.
- After all onboarding requirements have been successfully completed and approved, the postdoctoral scholar may begin employment.
